Ways to Make Money When You Have the Luxury of Time At Home

Thinking about when I retire, I have been tossing around some ideas to help me with extra money should I need it and empowering myself in my quest toward becoming comfortable in retirement which is something I am sincerely becoming more passionate about.
Women all over the world are beginning to leave the industrial workforce in order to rediscover the joys of keeping the home. We are in the early stages of witnessing homes returning to their rightful places as units of production. With that said, I’m willing to play such a vital role and financially contributing by:
  • working hard to saving money.
  • looking for creative ways to earn money from home.
Listed below are just a few sustainable ideas. Most of these I have personally found to be profitable in the past, or I am currently seeking out as possible ventures for the coming year.
1.     Start plants from seed. This growing season it is my goal to start plants from seed and sell the transplants to neighbours, co-workers, and at my local farmer’s market. Growing and selling organic, heirloom plants can bring in $2-$3 per plant, effortlessly covering the cost of a packet of seeds. Depending on the market in your area this can make a lot of money when spring arrives
2.     Grow and sell fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Not only will growing your own groceries save on supermarket purchases, but it has the potential to generate a bit of income during the growing season. Selling at local farmer’s markets and to your neighbours can easily cover the costs of growing the produce and put a few extra dollars in your pocket. Try putting a sign in the local shop inviting people to go onto an email list. They can be emailed when you have excess produce telling them that today, you have jams, carrots, potatoes and lettuce for sale, for example, and the prices
3.     Raise your own chickens and sell the eggs. 4 or 5 backyard hens could give you a couple dozen extra eggs each week, over what your family can consume. Free-range eggs are selling for $4 a dozen here in Tassy, this could potentially add extra per month to our budget. Obviously, the more hens you have the more money you make; and, if you are lucky enough to have a large grassy area, your cost of feed will be dramatically reduced.  These could be added to your email list as above.
4.     Begin making and selling herbal remedies. Start now planning your medicinal herb garden. Keep it small and manageable, growing only herbs that you are interested in. Learn to make tinctures, salves, and syrups. Google, How To…. Instructions to make them  In mid-summer start thinking which  family and friends could use these as Christmas presents or have a market stall to sell your goods.
5.     Get Crafty, take up knitting, sewing, or whatever turns you on and set up a web page and begin selling your creations,
6.      Sell your stuff. Down-size, re-organize, de-clutter whatever you call it, just get rid of the excess stuff. Here are a few tips for profiting off of your stuff:
·        Sell your books
·        Collect and cash in your loose change
·        Have a garage sale
·        Sort through your clothing and sell stuff you no longer wear. Don't forget Gumtree and eBay.
Just a word of warning:  Do not fall for work at home scams. Doing it all yourself is by far the best way.
