Round-Up of Local Affairs

Paying off the mortgage has become a bit of a obsession over the last few years. to the point that our next repayment is due in August 2019. We also have another home at the beach (which we are still paying off as well)  that we spend a lot of time at and eventually that will be our primary residence when we retire. We have been pottering around over the years doing jobs on the house and landscaping and fitting 7 solar panels that put power back into the grid.  We have been very impressed by them that we have decided to get 6 more.  Only, this is a no spend year so we don't have money to spend. Then my husband (the bearded wonder) suggested we get them using the redraw on the mortgage.  We had been quoted $6000 for the next 6 panels and when we found out that we could get them via a special deal they had at Easter for a mere $4450. So in a couple of weeks we will have them fitted.

Lately, I have been only spending a small amount each week on groceries (about $20ish). A lot of our dinners are from the freezer (remember when I had my big meat buy) and the garden.  Every vegie on the plate potato, tomato, parsnip and carrot mash, golden nugget pumpkin, beans and corn came from the garden. The meat is a cheap cut of lamb neck and shank cooked in the slow cooker. It was delicious.  I really enjoy cooking hearty, healthy meals that cost a pittance to make. What is your favourite way to save money?
