Taking Advantage of Special Deals

Yesterday I had to go and grab a few groceries, milk and some vegies and while there I noticed cream for 20cents a 300ml bottle. The catch was, the useby date expired the next day, today!  No problem, I bought up 3 bottles and went to check out the vegie department and there they had strawberries for $5.00 per kilo. They were super ripe and ready to be used right away. How could I leave them there when I was going to make home-made icecream using raspberries BUT the raspberries were nearly $6 for 500grams. No brainer stawberry ice cream instead of raspberry.

Here is the recipe:

500mls or 1 pint of milk,
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
600ml or 1 pint cream
1kg or about 2 lb strawberries processed through the food processer

Mix all together well and put through icecream maker in two lots as it fills the bowl twice.
Makes about 3 litres.

Another thing I used the cream for as a delicious Fettucine Cabonara.

Recipe:
 3 rashers of bacon
6 doz spring onions or lone large onion chopped
1 teaspoon mustard (i used hot english)
100gr fresh parmesan cheese grated
170mls cream
handfull of dried fettucine
black pepper

Put fettucine into boil, in a frypan put in chopped bacon and onion and cook till browned nicely, add mustard and cream mix and turn down heat.  When fettucine is cooked strain and mix in with creamy mix and grind in some black pepper. Add some fettucine water if it looks a bit dry.  This is delicious. Unfortunately, we ate it all before I got a photo of it last night.
